Before you rely on it

The signal meter reacts to devices that transmit. A camera that only records to a memory card doesn’t transmit, so the meter won’t notice it (the lens finder may still help). Phones, routers and smart TVs transmit too, so expect some alerts that turn out to be harmless.

Use it as a finding aid, then look with your own eyes.

Shipping and returns

Orders ship with tracking to U.S. addresses. You can return the detector within 30 days of delivery. Details are in our shipping policy and refund policy.

How it works

Three steps, about two minutes.

Do it once when you check in, before your bags are open. A bigger rental takes a little longer.

  1. Hand holding a hotel key card in a lobby 01

    Check in, switch on

Extend the antenna and start on high sensitivity. Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your own phone so it doesn’t set the detector off.

  2. The detector with its antenna extended and the LED signal bar lit 02

    Sweep the usual spots

Hold it a few inches from smoke detectors, clocks, chargers, TVs and vents. The LED bar climbs and the beeps speed up as a transmitting source gets closer.

  3. The detector with the red lens finder raised 03

    Look through the lens finder

Turn on the red lights and scan the room through the viewfinder. A camera lens can show up as a bright pinpoint. Found something? Take a photo and tell the hotel or host.

Where to use it

Anywhere you sleep, change or park.

Small enough for a jacket pocket, so it comes along on every trip.

A hotel bedroom with a wooden bed and garden view

Hotel rooms

Smoke detector, alarm clock, TV and anything plugged in near the bed or bathroom.

A bright vacation rental living room

Vacation rentals

Odd chargers, speakers and decor facing the bed or shower are worth a second look.

A fitting room with a curtain

Fitting rooms

A quick look before you change. Use the lens finder on mirrors, hooks and vents.

Car interior with light-colored seats

Your car

Under the seats, in the trunk and around the bumpers. Magnetic mode helps with magnet-mounted trackers.

The honest part

What it can do, and what it can’t.

A detector is only useful if you know its limits. Here they are, plainly.

It can

  • Pick up nearby devices that transmit, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular signals
  • Help you narrow down where a signal is coming from
  • Show lens reflections through the red-light finder
  • Flag strong magnets, often used to attach GPS trackers

It can’t

  • Detect a camera that only records to a memory card and doesn’t transmit (the lens finder may still help)
  • Tell a hidden camera from a phone, router or smart TV. You still need to look
  • Stay quiet near routers and phones. Expect some false alarms
  • Guarantee that a room is free of hidden devices

FAQ

Good questions.

Something else? Ask us, a real person replies.

What does the detector pick up?

Devices that transmit a wireless signal nearby, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth cameras, cellular GPS trackers and audio bugs that send what they record. It also has a red-light lens finder for spotting camera lenses and a magnetic mode for strong magnets.

Will it find every hidden camera?

No, and no detector can promise that. A camera that only records to a memory card doesn't transmit, so the signal meter can't hear it. The lens finder may still show its lens. Think of the detector as a finding aid that tells you where to look more closely.

Why does it beep near my phone or the router?

Because they transmit too. Before a sweep, switch your phone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off, move away from the room's router, and lower the sensitivity as you get close to a source. If the signal is strongest at a router or a TV, that's probably what you're hearing.

How do I use the lens finder?

Dim the lights, switch on the red LEDs and look through the viewfinder while you slowly scan the room. A camera lens can show up as a small, bright pinpoint that stays put as you move.

What should I do if I find something?

Don't tamper with it. Take photos, note where it is, and report it to the hotel, host or rental platform. If you feel unsafe, leave and call 911.

Is it legal to use?

Yes. In the U.S. you can use a signal detector for personal use. It only listens for signals; it doesn't block or jam anything.

How long does the battery last?

Up to about 25 hours of use per charge, depending on the mode. It charges over USB-C, and a cable is in the box.

How does shipping and returns work?
